We were trying to keep the boat steady and the lock was taking an age to go through the motions. We had also paid $40 extra to cover the fuel costs. Before we came into the lock area, the fuel line was nearly at empty. I will add this was far to close to where the lock starts and should be further back for a safer journey. The biggest issue occurred when we got to a canal lock with the boat, when the engine proceeded to cut out as we approached the button which you have to press to activate the locks functioning. The lady replied with words to the effect of ‘YEAH SURE’ and didn’t ask us to come in as a precaution to check it.įor the main bulk of the trip around the lakes in the area (Howard, Wildheart, Jessie are a few of the ones I can remember) the engine was not in great condition and clearly was not fit enough to carry the boat adequately with us on board. My uncle took the boat into the pontoon at a slow steady pace, area and spoke to the lady and asked her if the engine sounded healthy for the trip to continue and if it was in working order for the boat to travel. My auntie and some other family members started to become a bit concerned at this and the thought of potential drifting out into the lake.Īs the lady got to the pontoon, my uncle was in the driving seat and managed to get the engine started and as a group we decided that it would be best to take it back to the lady on the pontoon to get her finally say so on whether the engine was fit enough to take the boat out on the trip. This was as she had stayed onboard rather than the pontoon so we had not been tied down to the pontoon and as mentioned had no engine to get us back at this point. The lady in question then panicked and proceeded to recreate baywatch and jump out of the boat into the water and swim back to the pontoon, about 10ft away after we had drifted out a little. However, as we tried to switch the engine on to do this, the engine cut out and wouldn’t start (this would be become a common theme in the trip). She did attempt to show us how to start the boat and use the basic functions such as reverse and the use of the throttle. Apart from taking a few details from us in regards to the two drivers of the details (in this case two eldest males in our party) there was no in depth demonstration of boats functions or where to access key accessories such as life jackets or flares if an emergency occurred, only a limited review of the functions which are detailed below.Īs we boarded the boat, the lady did not step off the pontoon, instead showing her lack of knowledge for boats, and in a rather dozy fashion stayed on the boat with us. Whilst pleasant enough a person, the lady in charge was NOT at all knowledgable about the boat or the local lakes. We were given the boat by a young lady, whom was a he only worker at the place and whom was based out of a small hut. We booked the 6 hour rental time period from 11am-5pm Me and my family of 8 rented a pontoon boat in order to go and explore the local lakes in the area whilst on a family holiday from the UK. *DO NOT RENT WITH THIS COMPANY - WOULD GIVE A 0 STAR REVIEW IF POSSIBLE*Ībsolutely shocking service and overall experience.
